It was recently my great pleasure to critique for the South Wales Art Society again. During the session, I was asked to select two works that really excelled. No easy task, because of the high overall standard!
The following text is taken from their very nice Facebook page…
‘Tues 8 Oct – Critique – Gideon Hall
Despite a wet and windy evening over 40 members brought work for Gideon to critique. With his wide knowledge of art and art history, Gideon gave in depth evaluation of the work, offering advice and encouragement to all artists. Listening to his valuable insights, I’m sure all members benefited from Gideon’s gentle appraisals. At the end of the evening Gideon chose his personal 2 favourites. Firstly a beguiling figurative painting by Asha Bassi, and Anita Raymond’s bucolic depiction of grazing sheep. Congratulations to both ladies. The members of SWAS extend their thanks to Gideon, and look forward to welcoming him again.’

Thanks again to all who attended that rainy evening and were so very kind!!
This month I again had the pleasure to be the Guest Critic and Selection Judge for the South Wales Art Society.
“Last night we had a fabulous turnout… and around 30 members presented their art for critique. From new to old members we had a fantastic display of the members talent. Gideon gave constructive and practical advice on each artwork, and both the artists and those who came to view had an amazing evening. Gideon gave us the benefit of his many years of practical experience which everyone was able to benefit from. The members thank Gideon and hope to see him again. It was a tough task for him to choose his favourite 1 and 2… so it was a joint win for Pam Gilbert and her enchanting and skilful fabric art, and Brian Kemp for his incredible and stunning watercolour.”

Mixed Media Child’s Artwork (2014)
Bespoke mixed media artwork, created as a combination of favourite children’s characters, with those I developed myself. The child ‘character’ is based on a given photograph, as is the dog.
(If you would like to order one yourself, you can choose your own characters to include, or specify any other individual requirements. For a quotation and to book, please get in contact at firstname.lastname@example.org. Also, if you have any questions..!)
Thanks to the South Wales Art Society for asking me to be this year’s Judge of The Derrick Turner Prize. A tough call but I enjoyed it immensely…
Here is the overall winner Dr. Eli Absi…

The South Wales Art Society recently asked me to give a critique to their members. This was a most interesting and invigorating experience!
I had the intensely difficult task of choosing the recipient for The Critic’s Choice, and after much deliberation, I selected Asha Bassi’s winter landscape:
